What Is The Reason For The Decline in The Quality Of Refractory Castables?

The quality of refractory castables is related to the quality of construction projects. As a castable manufacturer, sometimes we often hear customers complain that the construction quality of castables does not meet expectations, the quality of castables is not good, etc. In fact, the reasons for the decline in the quality of castables are almost all due to the failure to master the correct storage method or construction method. So what is the reason for the decline in the quality of refractory castables?

refractory castables

01. Regarding the quality of refractory castable construction, there are four key points that need to be focused on: the planning and construction quality of anchors, the water content of castables during construction, the temperature of the site during construction, and the later maintenance and baking of refractory material castables.

02. In the process of mixing castables and adding water, the amount of water added is crucial. For example, if the amount of water added is too large, the castable will appear thinner, the fluidity will increase, and the construction strength of the castable will be affected. However, if the amount of water added is too little, it will make it difficult to mix the aggregate and powder, resulting in accumulation, and then it will cause its structure to be loose and the construction quality to decline.

03. Another important factor in the quality of castables is temperature. A short-term sudden change in temperature will quickly damage the castable, which will lead to a serious decline in quality, and even fall off before use. The thermal shock stability of the castable is very weak before the construction is completed.

04. Cement dosage. Cement is an important material that determines the strength of refractory castables. Generally speaking, with the increase in cement dosage, the compressive strength at room temperature increases, the high-temperature strength decreases, the refractoriness and load softening temperature continue to decrease, and the linear shrinkage rate after burning also increases. Some manufacturers will use inferior products as good ones, resulting in castables that do not meet the expected use.
