What is the aluminum content of mullite bricks, and what are the differences between sintering and electrofusion?

mullite bricks

Mullite bricks usually contain about 55% to 80% aluminum oxide (Al2O3), but the specific aluminum content may vary depending on the manufacturing method, raw material quality and process parameters.

The difference between sintering and electrofusion:

Sintering: This is a common method for preparing solid materials, including ceramics, metals, alloys, etc. During the sintering process, powdered or granular raw materials are heated to a temperature high enough, but not completely melted, to create a bond between the particles. The combination between these particles is called the neck. They form a connected pore network at the neck, giving the material a certain strength and shape. The production process of sintered mullite bricks is similar to that of high alumina refractory bricks.

Electric Fusion: This is a method that uses electrical energy to heat materials to melting temperature. In the electrofusion process, a large amount of heat energy is generated by passing an electric current through a resistance in the material, causing the material to melt. This method is often used to prepare high-purity, high-performance materials because it allows greater control over the material's chemical composition and structure. Fused mullite bricks are mainly made of high-alumina bauxite or industrial alumina, clay or silica, melted in an electric arc furnace, then cast and annealed to make refractory bricks. The main mineral component is mullite.

Sintered mullite bricks are a process in which raw powder or granular materials are heated to form a bond between the particles, while fused mullite refractory bricks are a process in which electrical energy is used to heat the material to the melting temperature. The choice between the two depends on the material. Depending on factors such as the nature, required structure and performance, the performance of these mullite brick is different.
