Calcium carbide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula CaC2 and a molecular weight of 64.099. Its appearance is characterized by white crystalline powder. The appearance of industrial product calcium acetylide is gray-black lumps with purple or gray cross-sections. It has a melting point of 447°C, a boiling point of 2300°C, and a flash point of -17.8°C. It reacts violently when it meets water to generate acetylene and release heat.

Products Production Process 

 

After the burned lime is crushed and screened, it is sent to the lime silo for storage until use. The lime and coke that meet the needs of calcium carbide production are batched according to the prescribed ratio, and the charge is sent to the top silo of the electric furnace with a bucket elevator.

The charge is added to the electric furnace through the material tube. The charge passes through the electrode arc pad and charge in the electric furnace. The resistance heat reaction produces calcium carbide.

It is taken out of the furnace at regular intervals and placed in a calcium acetylide pot. After cooling, it is broken into certain required particle size specifications to obtain the finished calcium carbides.

 

Products Application

 

1. Acetylene generated by the reaction of calcium carbide and water can synthesize many organic compounds, such as: synthetic rubber, artificial resin, acetone, ketene, carbon black, etc.; at the same time, acetylene-oxygen flame is widely used for metal welding and cutting.  (carbide) is an important basic chemical raw material and is mainly used to generate acetylene gas. Also used in organic synthesis, oxy-alkylene welding, etc.

2. When powdered calcium acetylide and nitrogen are heated, the reaction generates calcium cyanamide, that is, lime nitrogen. The cyanide melt generated by the reaction of heated lime nitrogen and table salt is used in gold mining and non-ferrous metal industries.

3. Carbide itself can be used as a desulfurizer in the steel industry.

4. When powdered reacts with N2, calcium cyanamide, that is, lime nitrogen, will be produced: Lime nitrogen is an important raw material for preparing cyanamide amides. The solution produced by the reaction of heated lime nitrogen with salt is used in the gold mining and non-ferrous metal industries.
